Quick Answer

Most golf resorts make you choose between another 18-hole round and calling it a day. Cabot Citrus Farms gives you two full courses, a 10-hole course and an 11-hole par-3 course—enough variety to keep playing without every round becoming a five-hour commitment.

That is the main reason to plan a Cabot Citrus Farms golf trip. Karoo and Roost are the anchors, while The Squeeze and The Wedge turn the time before dinner or after a main round into an important part of the stay.

Why Go

Cabot Citrus Farms sits in Brooksville on Florida’s Nature Coast, on the former World Woods property. Its sandy ground and elevation changes feel different from the flat, water-lined courses found on many Florida golf trips.

The property works best as a golf-first stay. Two full-length courses provide the serious rounds, but the shorter golf is what keeps the trip from feeling overly scheduled. A group can play Karoo in the morning, take a break and decide later whether it wants 10 holes on The Squeeze or night golf on The Wedge.

The cottages reinforce that approach. Everyone has a bedroom and ensuite bathroom, while common living areas and kitchens give the group somewhere to gather. Dining and practice facilities remain close.

The tradeoff is location. Cabot Citrus Farms is not a city trip built around nightlife. Brooksville is roughly 50 minutes from Tampa International Airport, and the experience works best when the group settles into the property.

The Golf

Cabot Citrus Farms has four distinct golf experiences. Karoo and Roost are both 18 holes, but they use the land differently. The Squeeze is not a par-3 course; its 10 holes range from 100 to 550 yards. The Wedge is the property’s 11-hole par-3 course.

Karoo

Karoo

Karoo is the boldest course on the property. Kyle Franz designed wide fairways with multiple routes, prominent bunkering and greens that ask golfers to think about the correct side of a slope before playing the approach. At 7,562 yards from the back tees, it has all the length stronger players need, but the width and varied teeing options allow the rest of the group to find a sensible setup.

The fourth hole shows Karoo’s approach clearly: a split fairway changes the preferred route depending on the hole location. The 18th offers three fairway options from the tee. The course gives you room, then makes the angle and next shot matter.

Karoo should be one of the protected rounds on the trip. Play it early enough that anyone wanting another look can consider a replay.

Roost

Roost

Roost feels older and more rooted in its setting. Kyle Franz, Ran Morrissett, Rod Whitman and Mike Nuzzo collaborated on a routing that moves from sandy scrub into rolling meadows, moss-draped live oaks and a 40-foot-deep sinkhole. Repeated elevation changes of roughly 50 feet are unusual for Florida and help give the course its identity.

The fairways are broad, but the course is not simply an open target. Split routes, uneven ground and greens shaped into the land reward golfers who look beyond the center of the fairway. Roost is a useful contrast to Karoo rather than a second version of it.

If Karoo is the more overtly dramatic design, Roost is the course that reveals more changes in landscape as the round develops. Both belong on a first trip.

The Squeeze

The Squeeze

The Squeeze is a 10-hole Mike Nuzzo design with one par 5, six par 4s and three par 3s. Hole lengths range from 100 to 550 yards, so it plays like a compressed golf course rather than a collection of wedge shots.

That makes it ideal for arrival afternoon or the second half of a 28-hole day. It feels substantial without requiring another full 18.

The Wedge

The Wedge

The Wedge is an 11-hole par-3 course, also designed by Mike Nuzzo. Its holes range from approximately 70 to 115 yards, but the large waste areas, heavily sloped greens and varied lies keep it from becoming a simple pitch-and-putt.

The course is lit for night golf and is walking only. That combination makes it one of the most useful parts of the property: golfers can return after dinner or finish a day under the lights without organizing another championship round.

The Cottages at Cabot Citrus Farms

Where to Stay

The Cottages at Cabot Citrus Farms are the clear fit for a complete property-based trip. Two- and four-bedroom layouts include indoor and outdoor living areas, full kitchens and an ensuite bathroom for every bedroom. For a buddies group, that solves the usual tension between wanting shared space and wanting privacy.

Location is another advantage. Staying on property keeps the courses, practice areas, dining and evening golf close. A nearby hotel may lower the lodging cost, but it changes the trip by adding a drive before and after the golf.

Dining is spread across several distinct settings. Grange Hall on Main Street serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with indoor, patio and firepit seating. The Porch sits on one of the property’s higher points and focuses on pizza and comfort food with course and sunset views. The Smokehouse, between the range and The Squeeze, works naturally before, after or between rounds.

Shaping Your Trip

Three nights is enough for a strong first visit: Karoo, Roost, The Squeeze and The Wedge without making every day feel overloaded. Four nights gives the group space for a replay, a lighter golf day or time for the property’s off-course activities, which can include bass fishing, clay shooting and axe throwing.

Do not schedule the shorter courses as afterthoughts. The Squeeze deserves its own window, and The Wedge becomes better when the group can use it casually rather than racing daylight—especially because the lights extend play into the evening.

A practical first trip places Karoo and Roost on separate days. Add The Squeeze after the full round only if the group wants more golf, then keep The Wedge flexible for an evening. That gives everyone a common itinerary without forcing every golfer into the same total number of holes.

Best Time to Go

November through April is the strongest overall season. Temperatures and humidity are more comfortable for walking, and the risk of afternoon storms is lower than in summer. It is also the highest-demand period.

Walking is encouraged on Karoo and Roost, although carts are available. From December 1 through March 31, the resort currently requires a caddie for tee times before 10:00 a.m. on those courses and for golfers using a cart. That policy should be checked again for the exact travel dates.

Late spring and early fall can provide a useful balance between conditions and value. Summer is playable, but early tee times become much more important because of heat, humidity and storms.

Planning Considerations

  • Protect one round each on Karoo and Roost before adding replays.
  • Treat The Squeeze as a real course, not a par-3 warmup.
  • Save The Wedge for an evening when the group can use the lights and play casually.
  • Decide whether the group prefers walking and caddies or carts before the trip is finalized.
  • Three nights works for the complete course lineup; four creates room for a replay or off-course activity.
  • Use Tampa as the primary commercial airport when its flight schedule works.
