The tradeoffs are price, advance planning and coastal weather. This is not a flexible last-minute trip; lodging must be part of the plan.
The Golf
Pebble Beach Golf Links
Pebble Beach Golf Links supplies the oceanfront scenery, but its small greens make approach play important. Coastal wind can change club selection quickly even when the forecast looks calm.
Walking with a caddie is the fullest experience. Carts must remain on the path, so riding does not eliminate walking and can make club selection less convenient. Choose tees that leave manageable approaches rather than recreating U.S. Open yardages.
Spyglass Hill Golf Course
Spyglass starts with five holes through sandy coastal terrain, then turns into the forest for the remainder of the round. The shift is what makes it memorable: exposed ocean views give way to narrow corridors, elevation changes and demanding green complexes.
Spyglass is strong enough to be a trip highlight and difficult enough that it should not immediately follow a long travel day.
Del Monte Golf Course
Del Monte dates to 1897 and is the oldest course in continuous operation west of the Mississippi. Its tree-lined, traditional parkland layout is more compact than Pebble Beach or Spyglass.
It works on arrival day or as a less intense middle round. It is not a substitute for Spanish Bay, but adds history and a different style while that course is closed.
The Hay
The Hay is a nine-hole par-3 course redesigned by Tiger Woods. Its second hole recreates Pebble Beach’s seventh, and the property includes a putting course.
It fits around check-in, a full round or an evening on property. A group staying several nights should make room for it instead of filling every slot with 18 holes.
The Links at Spanish Bay
Spanish Bay closed March 18, 2026, for a transformation by Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner. Its announced reopening is April 17, 2027, shortly before the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach.
Trips before that date should not list Spanish Bay as playable. After reopening, a four-night itinerary can again include Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill and Spanish Bay as the three main resort rounds, with Del Monte or The Hay added according to pace.
Where to Stay
The Lodge overlooks Pebble Beach’s 18th green and keeps the group closest to the first tee, The Hay and Stillwater Bar & Grill. Fairway One adds rooms and cottages near the first fairway for a more private setup.
The Inn at Spanish Bay is the larger, more social base, with ocean and forest views, restaurants and the sunset bagpiper. The hotel remains open during the golf-course renovation and still provides resort-guest access.

Once Spanish Bay reopens, four nights will make even more sense for groups playing the three primary resort courses. Trying to fit Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill, Spanish Bay and another full round into three nights can turn a premium trip into a schedule of wake-up calls.

Best Time to Go
Pebble Beach is playable throughout the year, but April through October generally provides the best balance of daylight and lower rainfall. Winter can bring more availability, but rain, wind and softer conditions are likelier. Pack layers in every season; the Monterey Peninsula feels cooler than inland California.
