Kapalua is one of the rare resort golf settings where the scenery is as memorable as the golf. The Plantation Course, designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, climbs and tumbles across the slopes above the Pacific with huge elevation changes, wide fairways, and some of the best ocean views in American resort golf. The Bay Course, an Arnold Palmer and Francis Duane design, has historically added a more approachable coastal round, but it is currently closed until further notice. Even with that caveat, Kapalua remains a strong luxury Maui golf trip thanks to its resort lodging, beaches, restaurants, hiking, snorkeling, and easy pairings with other Maui experiences.
Golfers typically stay at luxury Kapalua-area properties such as The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua, Montage Kapalua Bay / The Resort at Kapalua Bay, Kapalua Villas, or nearby Napili and Kaanapali accommodations. Most trips use Kapalua as a luxury Maui base rather than a golf-only stay.
Kapalua combines resort golf, dramatic Maui scenery, luxury lodging, beaches, dining, tennis, pickleball, practice facilities, and outdoor activities into one of Hawaii’s most complete golf vacation settings. Current golf planning should focus on the open Plantation Course while monitoring the Bay Course reopening status.
Each property is selected for proximity to the next round, the kind of evening that fits a long golf trip, and the feel we want for the group.
