Comporta & Tróia — overview

Comporta & Tróia is a low-density coastal golf destination an hour south of Lisbon, built around Terras da Comporta's Dunas and Torre courses. David McLay-Kidd's sand-based Dunas and Sergio García's new Torre bring modern championship golf to a landscape of umbrella pines, rice fields and long Atlantic beaches. Tróia Golf, Robert Trent Jones Sr.'s peninsula course, is under renovation and scheduled to return in early 2027.

Dunas Golf Course is David McLay-Kidd's par-71 course at Terras da Comporta, routed through indigenous pine forest, sand and low, rolling ground near Praia do Pego. Opened in 2023, it was built to use the site's natural contours rather than impose a resort-style look, so the course rewards creative recovery shots and precise distance control. The layout quickly became Portugal's headline modern course, earning World Golf Awards recognition as the World's Best New Golf Course.

Torre Golf Course is Sergio García's first signature course design, a par-72 companion to Dunas at Terras da Comporta. Opened in 2025, the layout works through pine forest and golden sand five minutes from its sister course, bringing a distinct strategic test rather than a duplicate of Dunas. It gives a Comporta golf trip a second full-scale modern round without changing hotels or the character of the destination.

1980

Tróia Golf Championship Course is Robert Trent Jones Sr.'s 1980 par-72 design on the Tróia Peninsula, where doglegs, bold bunkering and elevated greens move through pines and native coastal vegetation. Its third hole was selected by Trent Jones Sr. for his ideal 18-hole course. The course is currently undergoing a comprehensive renovation and is scheduled to reopen in early 2027, when it will again be the classic counterweight to Comporta's newer designs.

What to Expect at Comporta & Tróia

Why visit

This is Portugal for golfers who would rather stay near quiet beaches and pine forest than a busy resort strip. At Terras da Comporta, Dunas is David McLay-Kidd's minimalist par-71 course, shaped directly into sandy ground, while Torre is Sergio García's first signature design and a par-72 companion five minutes away. Both are close to Comporta's beach clubs, rice paddies and relaxed restaurants. When Tróia Golf reopens after its renovation, Robert Trent Jones Sr.'s classic will add a peninsula round reached by road through Comporta or by ferry from Setúbal. A four- or five-night stay gives the destination enough room to feel unhurried.

Accommodations

Stay in or near Comporta for access to Terras da Comporta, with design-led boutique hotels and private villas spread between Carvalhal, the village and the beaches. Tróia Design Hotel is the practical peninsula base when Tróia Golf returns, while a Lisbon split stay works well for international flights and city time.

Resort amenities

Terras da Comporta pairs its two championship courses with driving ranges, short-game practice, putting greens, pro shops and restaurant/bar facilities. Beyond golf, this is a beach-focused coast: choose from long Atlantic strands, horse riding, wellness, paddle sports and simple seafood-driven dining. Tróia adds a marina, casino, restaurants and access to the Sado Estuary.

  • Two 18-hole Terras da Comporta courses
  • Driving range, chipping and putting at Dunas
  • Course restaurants, bars and pro shops
  • Atlantic beaches and beach clubs
  • Tróia marina and Sado Estuary access
